Belgian consumers follow the Spanish suitcase war

Testachats or Testaankoop (in French or Flemish), a kind of Belgian OCU, has decided to follow in the footsteps of the Spanish Consumer Directorate and file a formal complaint against Ryanair, Vueling, Wizz Air and Easyjet, for their baggage policies. hand. It follows the same line as the Spanish one: they protest because the traveler who carries a suitcase that exceeds the minimums set by these airlines is charged (Spain’s historic fine on Ryanair, Easyjet, Vueling and Volotea).

While in Spain the Ministry of Transport (of Óscar Puente) and Consumer Affairs are throwing their weight behind because the former does not agree with the sanction, in Europe they follow in the footsteps of our initiative. Testachats says that the practice of charging an amount for carrying a suitcase is unacceptable because it hides the true price of the plane tickets, preventing the traveler from comparing.

According to European regulations, airlines must clearly show the traveler the price they are going to pay.

Testachats’ complaint has been raised with the European Economic Inspectorate. And airlines are required to comply with European law.

There are rulings from the European Court of Justice that say that a hand luggage of a reasonable size is part of the minimum price of the ticket, although they do not clarify the size of that luggage.
