Boeing negotiates to buy Spirit, the manufacturer of its fuselages

In Wichita, Kansas, a company other than Boeing has been manufacturing the fuselages of the Boeing 737Max since 2005, which it sends by train to the brand owner’s Seattle factory, which assembles the wings, engines and finishes the plane for delivery.

The company is Spirit AeroSystems, a key third-party supplier to Boeing. Not only does he work for Boeing, but he is by far their largest customer. Spirit has a factory in Ireland whose main customer is Airbus.

Nothing guarantees that the negotiations will end in an agreement, according to The Wall Street Journal. Right now there are some banks that are carrying out intermediation.

The news caused the immediate rise in the value of Spirit (15 percent), while Boeing fell because obviously this operation will have a high financial cost at a delicate time.

Spirit has also been ‘touched’ by the report made public by the American authority on the failure of the door of the Alaska Airlines 737. It is an important company, whose turnover in 2023 was more than 6 billion dollars, but it did not make profits but rather losses (A new Boeing 737-9 Max loses an emergency door in mid-flight).
