Iginio Massari will open his first restaurant in a former casino on Lake Garda and it will be a pharaonic project

Looks like the most impressive project yet, the one with Iginio Massari received the concession for the former Gardone Riviera casino, located in an elegant building on Lake Garda. In fact, for the first time the most famous confectioner in Italy (with six operating shops and two pop up shops in different cities), a regular guest of Masterchef Italia, expands his vision, moving from pastry making to catering.

Iginio Massari’s project presented to the municipality of Gardone Riviera that he had recently auctioned the management of the historic Palazzo Wimmerin fact, involves the creation of a luxury restaurant, with spaces also designed for events and ceremonies. Important planning to be done among other things in record time: Maestro Massari’s goal is actually to open in the first half of 2025but not before they have significantly renovated the building’s spaces.

The prestigious property, Art Nouveau style building typical of a certain architecture of this area, initially, at the beginning of the twentieth century, it was Kurhaus, that is, as a public place intended for the entertainment of those who arrived at Lake Garda for the purpose of healing, to enjoy the mild and healthy climate. In 1917, the building was purchased by the municipality and used for events, conferences, concerts and performances. Restored a few years ago, it was auctioned by the municipality and awarded at the beginning of June to Dama srl, the company of Iginio Massari, for over 160 thousand euros per year.

The idea is probably to create a luxury wedding venue, considering the great popularity that Iginio Massari enjoys in Italy. But not only: Massari wants to create a fine dining restaurant (in the city that already hosts the highest Italian chef in the ranking of the fifty best restaurants in the world and several other interesting addresses, among other things), and also allocate part of the spaces provided to events and exhibitions, organized in agreement with the Municipality.

For those who know the chef well, the choice to open a restaurant rather than a patisserie does not come as a complete surprise, given that Massari’s latest book is devoted to savory cuisine rather than desserts. “Personally, it’s going to be a bit of a homecoming with that in mind my mother actually ran a catering business from where my love for sweets was born”, declared the master of Italian pastry. “Today, as a family, we have the know-how that my children Nicola and Deborah bring as a gift to enter the world of culinary art in a prestigious area long recognized for excellent catering. Excited about the values ​​we already promote in the confectionery sector, we will make the former Casino a place capable of highlighting the beautiful and the goodcelebrated in all their forms.”
