Riu advances in sustainability with its new Proudly Committed strategy

Riu Hotels & Resorts has presented its new sustainability strategy, Proudly Committedwhich arises “after a deep internal reflection on the future of the hotel industry and its impact on the community, the environment and the workers themselves”, as sources from the chain emphasize. As a result of this reflection, Riu has decided to undertake a process of transformation to place sustainability at the center of all organizational decisionswith the aim that the impact of its activity is always the most positive possible, both in the society where it develops it and in its ecosystems.

Proudly Committed marks a before and after for Riu. Until now the company was very proud of its commitment to offering excellent service to its customers and obtaining good results. Now the challenge is to maintain what has been achieved until today, but increasing commitment to people and the environment.

The strategy, which has been proposed “with the wisdom and restraint that characterize Riu’s operation”, marks the route for three years, from 2024 to 2026and establishes “ambitious, concrete and measurable objectives” in each of the four pillars: Community and sustainable destinations, Environment, People and Transparency.

Proudly Committed is the name of the strategy but also of the communication campaign which reflects the enthusiasm with which the company faces this project. The motto represents Riu’s commitment to “to do things for real, to comply with what is announced and that all this is a source of pride for the company”.

One of the keys to achieving success in its execution is the involvement in decision making of the chain’s highest governing body, which is its Board of Directorsas well as the creation of a Sustainability Committee made up of professionals from very diverse areas of the house. This will be in charge of working on the definition of the projects of each pillar and to make the follow-up to ensure that objectives are achieved.

Community and sustainable destinations

The first pillar has the objective of continuing to contribute to the community prosperity where Riu operates and the goal for 2026 is that 100% of destinations have a reference project. The guide for making social investment will continue to be the Riu Methoda system that applies an academic methodology to analyze the situation of destinations, their needs and problems, to allocate resources where they are most necessary and where the impact is the clearest and most positive for the community, as published HOSTELTUR tourism news in the Video Interview: The application of the Riu Method in CSR.
