Russian tourists under the age of 14 will have to confirm citizenship when entering Abkhazia

Minor citizens of the Russian Federation under the age of 14 traveling to Abkhazia will need to confirm their citizenship. The new rules will come into force on March 1, 2024, the press service of the Border Directorate of the FSB of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory reported.

Thus, when crossing the Russian-Abkhaz border, young tourists will have to present one of the following documents: international passport; birth certificate with a mark and seal on Russian citizenship or a certificate of acquisition of citizenship; passport of the parent – a citizen of the Russian Federation, in which information about the children is entered and certified by the seal and signature of the body in charge of affairs on citizenship of the Russian Federation.

In some regions, it is not obligatory to put a mark on citizenship on the birth certificate. You can get a red stamp for free by contacting the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Moreover, if a child turns 14 years old during a trip to Abkhazia, he will be able to enter Russia only with a foreign passport. If it is not there, a certificate of return will be issued at the consular department of the Russian Embassy, which may take some time.
