Thanks to tourists, Aeroflot increased passenger traffic on international flights by one and a half times

Airlines belonging to the Aeroflot group increased passenger traffic on international routes by one and a half times from January to April compared to the same period last year. “In 4 months, 3.9 million passengers were transported, which is 50% more than a year earlier,” – it says in the report on the results of operational activities.

This was mainly due to the opening of new, primarily tourist, destinations and an increase in flight frequency. The strategic partnership with Biblio-Globus also made a contribution – the tour operator has blocks of seats and loads the carrier’s flights on many routes.

“Tourism is of great importance in this regard – flights to Turkey, Thailand, the Emirates, Egypt, China, Cuba and so on. Moreover, this will continue to develop. It’s no wonder that another news today is that the number of flights from Moscow and Russian regions to Antalya will be significantly increased,” commented Dmitry Gorin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vipservice holding.

According to him, the share of international flights is slowly but growing, not only from Aeroflot, but also from other domestic carriers. If before the pandemic the ratio between domestic and foreign destinations for all Russian airlines was 60 to 40%, last year it was 80 to 20, but now the international share has increased by 2-3%. “The presence of a fleet thanks to the purchase of aircraft from foreign lessors allows us to expand the network of routes,” the expert added.

Another question is to what extent will the growth of international transport continue? Nobody has canceled restrictions on flights of Russian airlines and is not going to do so in the near future. However, from time to time information appears that new directions may open – in the direction where it is possible. In particular, to Indonesia and African countries, for example to Tanzania (Aeroflot received permission to fly to Zanzibar last summer, AZUR air and Red Wings are also showing interest in the African island). But everything is not simple and depends not only on potential demand. “In any case, there are international agreements. It is necessary to take into account not only the fleet that can fly abroad, but also the possibility of aircraft maintenance at foreign airports, which may be subject to certain restrictions,” noted Dmitry Gorin.

For example, at the end of last year, Aeroflot had to adjust its program to Mauritius – the airliners flew with intermediate landings for some time. This was due to the fact that ground services on the island refused to refuel Russian aircraft.

Previously we wrote, that in the summer schedule Aeroflot will increase the number of flights between Moscow and Antalya from 21 to 45 per week – the airline will operate up to 7 flights from Sheremetyevo per day. In addition, the national carrier will send tourists from St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Mineralnye Vody, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Samara, Sochi and Ufa to the Turkish resort. The total flight frequency will be up to 114 flights per week from 10 Russian cities.
