The man worked for two years, got married, and that’s it – welcome to the south

The management company Mantera has confirmed plans to launch a new luxury hotel in Sochi under its own brand on the Black Sea coast. It is called Mantera Supreme 5*, includes 720 rooms and is located near the Olympic Park on the federal territory of Sirius. As reporters were told at a press brunch on May 23, the facility will be fully commissioned in July. At the moment, a congress center with 1,320 seats has been launched, and the swimming pools have been filled – there are 11 of them. The water comes from the sea from a depth of 180 m. Heating is provided so that “guests have the full feeling of an exclusive seaside resort.” “The hotel will operate in technical mode from the summer, the first event will take place in August, and the grand opening will take place before the end of the year,” promised Mantera CEO Vadim Trukshin. “This is the future star of the resort,” he told reporters.

In addition, the Mantera Resort & Congress hotel, previously managed by Radisson, is already hosting tourists in Sochi, and other facilities are being developed.

All projects require a large number of personnel. The Sochi Park Hotel alone employs 1,500 people, and the Mantera Supreme will have a comparable workforce. In this regard, Mantera launched its own platform for employee training and has already built two campuses for 300-400 people. A TourDom.ru correspondent asked how the restrictions that came into force in the Krasnodar Territory in January affected the company’s work. Under threat of a fine, it is now prohibited to hire foreign employees with patents. This applies to almost all areas, including hospitality.

In order to compensate for the deficit, we have to invite people from other regions of Russia. And this is expensive. To bring an employee to Sochi, you must either build housing for him on expensive land or rent it. In addition, the Russian comes to work for other money. And in the end, all these costs have to be included in the room price.

According to Trukshin, instead of banning the hiring of foreign personnel, it is better to create rules regulating this area, since migrants working on construction sites and in the hospitality sector are different people. The company had to part with approximately 10% of its employees, and these were qualified specialists who spoke not only Russian, but also English – they worked at the reception. Now they are employed in South Korea.

Moreover, not all market participants are so law-abiding: according to Trukshin, there are those who continue to work with migrants and find options to circumvent restrictions.

Mantera, due to the scale of its business, can afford to take a different path – it has launched a program for training and attracting employees, and provides them with housing. However, this has side effects. “We work with universities in different cities, the bulk of our employees are from regions north of Voronezh and east of Yekaterinburg. And somewhere in the Vologda region depopulation is happening,” Trukshin said. This does not solve the problem as a whole. When asked how to globally change the situation with personnel in the tourism industry in Russia, the top manager answered: “Give birth more.”

Commentators on the telegram channel “Roof of TurDoma”, however, are sure that there is a faster way – to pay more. As our correspondent has seen, the salaries of line staff in hotels in the Krasnodar region now fluctuate widely. Thus, the Krasnaya Polyana Resort is ready to pay a maid from 41 to 65 thousand rubles. This is before taxes, but includes accommodation. Some employers declare payments of up to 80–90 thousand rubles. However, how much a person will receive is not always clear, because not everyone writes about housing costs and other details in the advertisements. A piecework form of payment is also practiced – 2500–4000 rubles. per shift.
