The Prime Minister of Thailand hopes for the resumption of Thai Airways flights Bangkok – Moscow

On February 19, the head of the Thai government, Sretta Taweesin, noted that Russian tourists sometimes do not have enough flights to travel to the kingdom. In his opinion, it would help to resolve the issue renewal flights to Russia by Thai Airways, reported Khaosod.

The Prime Minister noted that he knows about the high demand of Russians for the country’s resorts. At the same time, the national air carrier does not participate in air transportation. Since the airline already operates flights to a number of European countries and Istanbul, he hopes that flights between Moscow and Bangkok will resume. Possible dates were not mentioned in the publication – the prime minister promised to consult with the airline.

Since last year, the Thai company has been considering the possibility of launching flights to Russia after replenishing its fleet. At that time, experts identified difficulties in obtaining insurance for the aircraft as one of the main problems. To date, it is not yet known whether an insurance option acceptable to the kingdom has been found.

In 2020, Thai Airways announced a temporary restriction of flights to Europe due to the coronavirus pandemic. Moscow was also included in that list. Prior to this, the air carrier had been operating up to three flights a week between the two capitals since 2005.

Earlier, TourDom wrote that almost 1.5 million Russian tourists visited Thailand last year. As part of the winter schedule, Aeroflot alone operated about three dozen flights a week from Moscow to Bangkok and Phuket; in addition, flight programs of Russian air carriers were organized from many regions of the country.
