The Russian Foreign Ministry warned tourists that provocations and kidnappings are possible at the Olympics

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, warned Russian tourists who are going to visit the Olympics in Paris in the summer that they should be as careful as possible – they could encounter extremely unpleasant situations. “Provocations are possible, illegal detentions are possible, kidnappings are also possible, as happened with our compatriots, citizens of Russia, all these years,” – said Zakharova on air on the Match TV channel. By the way, this is the first alarming warning from the foreign policy department. At the end of March, the Russian Ambassador to France Alexey Meshkov made a similar appeal. He then compared Paris to a “tough Western jungle” where Russian tourists and athletes would be left alone.

However, you need to understand that the flow of vacationers from our country to the Olympic Games has never been distinguished by its size and consistency, even in previous years. These sporting events attracted far fewer fans than, for example, the European Football Championships. Now the situation is much more severe – getting to France is difficult and expensive. And, in addition, only a small number of Russian athletes will compete at the Olympics, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, and even then under a neutral flag. “When there are no Russian and Belarusian athletes, the sporting value of such an Olympics is very doubtful,” confirm subscribers of our telegram channel “Roof of TurDom.

Nevertheless, there is demand among Russians for trips to France. It cannot be compared with pre-pandemic and pre-sanction times, however, individual trips from tour operators are booked regularly. French visas are also popular among our compatriots, largely because consulates often issue multiple documents valid for up to 5 years. Representatives of visa agencies told TourDom.ru that already in February, the approaching season began to be felt in the French visa center. Now there are also many people who want to apply for Schengen, but, as noted in specialized telegram channels, there are difficulties with registration – you need to plan several weeks to find a place.

Let us remind you that the day before tourists encountered problems obtaining visas due to technical work in the VFS Global system. At the same time, the French visa center continues to accept documents both in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
