Tour operators are going on tours to the regions and taking travel agents abroad

On the eve of the summer season, many tour operators organize road shows for travel agents in Russian cities. The editors of TourDom.ru found that there is no consensus on the effectiveness of such events.

On the one hand, companies strive to convey knowledge about their product to as many partners as possible.

For example, the PAC Group road show “World of Cruises and Travel” covered nine cities, including Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Kazan. The tour operator presented cruises and other destinations – UAE, Turkey, Maldives, Thailand.

Tour operator Anex has planned events in nine regions. In March-April, travel agents from Chelyabinsk, Surgut, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk will be able to attend training seminars.

The ART-TOUR company has expanded its travel geography this year. “We again returned to distant regions, such as Vladivostok and Khabarovsk. Representatives of the Four Seasons, Crown & Champa, and JA Manafaru hotels were invited to business dinners dedicated to the Maldives in these cities,” said General Director Dmitry Arutyunov. “We work with regular transportation and see interest in our product from tourists from different regions.” In total, ART-TOUR specialists visit up to 30–35 cities throughout the year.

Biblio-Globus, together with hotels in Egypt, is organizing a series of workshops and evening programs. On April 15, the event will be held in Nizhny Novgorod, on the 17th in St. Petersburg, and on the 19th in Ufa.

At the same time, companies try to ensure that agents receive as much first-hand information as possible. The standard road show format has been revised by the Fun & Sun tour operator. “If earlier we invited about eight hoteliers, now the number has increased to 12–15. We seat them at round tables and give everyone the opportunity to communicate with agents live and show presentations. We choose sites with a larger capacity, due to which we have the opportunity to invite more agents,” the company said. A road show in the direction of Türkiye has already been held according to this scheme. Events in the UAE are planned in April-May – in Moscow, Kazan, Makhachkala, Volgograd and other cities.

On the other hand, there is an opinion that trips to the regions do not always pay off.

“We have moved away from the format of large road shows; in my opinion, they are not entirely effective, the essence of product promotion is lost,” said Artur Muradyan, head of the tour operator Space Travel. – We see a general trend in the movement of some events online. It’s more convenient to gain knowledge on a specific product in this format; now there are more platforms and opportunities.”

Space Travel prefers to take travel agents abroad. This year, the UAE will host a traditional event for partners – sales leaders.

PAC Group is also planning a trip to the Emirates for its partners. The tour operator is holding an “Arabian Tale” promotion: 50 agents, the best in sales, will go on a celebrity tour with accommodation in Atlantis hotels.
