To the north of the province of Alicante, lies the Alta Marina region, which is home to the picturesque town of La Laguar Valley and its beautiful urban center. This town, less than an hour from towns such as Denia, Calpe and Altea, is completely surrounded by nature, which gives us the opportunity to do a wide variety of hiking routes.

One of the most popular in the area is the Barranco del Infierno Routealso known as the ‘cathedral of hiking’, a route that takes us through a climb with 6,600 steps in a rocky landscape full of vegetation. The effort is worth it and we can enjoy spectacular views from the top of the mountain.

The Hell’s Ravine Route

The Barranco del Infierno Route is for true adventurers, and that is the difficulty is high due to its long route (15 km) and its continuous unevenness. Added to this is its duration: 6 hours and 45 minutes. Thus, from Tourism of the Valencian Community, they recommend “bring comfortable shoes, water, sun protection and some food.” “The best times to take the route are first thing in the day“, they add.

The starting point is the town of Fleix and from there, following the markings of the PR-CV 147 trail, we will begin to ascend and descend, crossing the ravine on two occasions, while we overcome more than six thousand stone steps blended with the terrain of the mountain itself. One of the highlights of this circular route is a hole in a big rock where we can look out and contemplate a unique panoramic view of the mountains and the Ebo River.

Finally, at one point we will reach the town of Benimaurelland after a well-deserved rest we will only have the last section ahead of us: an easy descent to return again to the town of Fleix.
