From one end of Portugal to the other, we can find interesting vertebrate hiking routes through wooden walkways that allow us access to natural landscapes of enormous beauty. Some well-known examples are the famous Passadiços de Paiva or those of Orvalho, the latter less than two hours from the border with Spain.

Another less known route, but also very interesting, is that of the Passadiços do Penedo Furado. In this case, the walkways connect a river beach with a beautiful area full of waterfalls, passing through viewpoints that offer us spectacular views of the surroundings.

The Passadiços do Penedo Furado

The Passadiços do Penedo Furado were inaugurated in 2019, however, in 2021 the route was expanded, transforming this route into a perfect tourist attraction. Specifically, we find these walkways in the municipality of Vila de Rei, in the Castelo Branco district.

The route is circular and extends 1.8 kilometers from the Penedo Furado river beach. This fantastic bathing area becomes a very popular place in the summer months, as it allows us to take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Ribeira do Codes, a tributary of the Zêzere River.

From here we will begin to walk on the wooden walkways, which will take us to the Penedo Furado Waterfalls, a beautiful set of waterfalls surrounded by vegetation. But the route does not stop here, since if we continue the route we will reach the Miradouro das Fragas do Rabadão and the Miradouro do Penedo Furadotwo viewpoints that give us impressive views of the mountains and the watercourse that runs through them.
